The Campus Activities Board held a "Blast From the Past" event at the Student Union Tuesday that allowed UCF students to reminisce on their favorite childhood memories.

Many students remember growing up on Nicktoons and other Nickelodeon programming. And whenever someone talks about a television show they used to watch, it creates a chain reaction, said Sabrina Glass, the CAB special events director for the 2006-2007 school year. This eventually leads to remembering and discussing other shows from youth.

"We're all that age right now," Glass said.

Glass, like many other students, remembers growing up on shows like The Adventures of Pete and Pete, The Ren and Stimpy Show, Clarissa Explains It All, and Rugrats. She also remembers playing board games like Risk and video games on Nintendo 64 such as Golden Eye 007.

"What better thing to do than to have a blast from the past kind of thing?" Glass said.

Students came not only to reminisce, but to relive their younger years. From watching older shows to playing board games and video games, anything they did back in kindergarten was available to them, Glass said.

CAB director and junior radio and TV major Travis Johnson said that it was an opportunity for students to take a break from school and travel back in time.

Students came to get something to eat while doing a variety of activities. Some played board games such as Sorry, Connect Four, Monopoly and Risk. Others sat down and played various video games like Super Mario 64, Star Fox 64 and Cruisin' USA on Nintendo 64 and Super Mario Bros. 3 on Nintendo.

For Bridget Savage, a sophomore liberal arts major, the first thing she saw was the video games and remembered being really into the game Street Fighter.

"That really snapped my memory," Savage said.

Most of all, students came to watch favorite shows from when they were kids. The two primarily shown were The Ren and Stimpy Show and The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Steve Stetson, 25, came to watch The Adventures of Pete and Pete because it was his favorite show growing up. He also said that he enjoyed playing N64 with his brothers.

"The first thing I saw was N64 and I remembered Cruisin' USA," Stetson said.

Stetson was a guest of Kathryn Magloff, a sophomore mathematics major.

"I saw it on [the UCF Web site] and thought it was a good way to kill time," Magloff said.

For Magloff, she remembered staying home to baby-sit her little brother while watching SNICK, short for Saturday Night Nickelodeon.

Some of those who attended were into the shows so much that they acted out various parts of the episodes shown.

As the event continued, more students showed up to relive their younger years all over again.

Glass gave prizes to those who answered trivia questions correctly. Prizes included DVD season sets for The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Gargoyles and Clarissa Explains It All.

Students had to correctly answer two questions that related to the shows. For instance, they had to name five Nicktoons from the early '90s or guess the name of the tattoo on Little Pete's arm.

Brian Figueroa, a senior restaurant management major, won the complete second season DVD set of The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

It all brought back a sense of nostalgia for Figueroa. He said that watching the show brought back good times, while playing Risk brought back lots of frustration.

Some guests were members of CAB who came to support the event and to have fun.

Laurel Elmore, a senior liberal arts major, is on the promotions committee and is a friend of Glass.' For her, it was an surreal experience. "I can't believe this is what I was like," she said.

By the end of the event, those who attended left happy after reliving some of their childhood memories.

Glass said that another "Blast From the Past" event is possible for November.
