Before fans step into the Bright House Networks Stadium for Saturday's Homecoming game kickoff at 3:30 p.m. against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, Memory Mall will play host to the newest Homecoming tradition - Festival of Knights.

Memory Mall, a popular tailgating spot as is, will be filled with people for the first-ever massive tailgating extravaganza. UCF is one-upping gameday's usual tents, grills and tables, with a celebration that will include activities such as pie eating contests, free food, music and fortune tellers.

The event's performing talent will feature UCF students who filled out a special talents application online.

Who will be performing, however, remains a mystery to seen.

This mystery seems to be a running theme for not just the Festival of Knights, but Homecoming 2008 as a whole.

The Homecoming Web site sets the tone when it states, "We are tying this event with our medieval theme, so expect the unexpected."

Some students are intrigued.

"I love football games," Kristyn Hughes, a senior business major, said. "I'm at Memory Mall every gameday playing flip cup and eating hot dogs, but this is going to be even better."

Another UCF senior, Natalie Gonzalez, is looking forward to the pie-eating contest.

"I go to all the games. Homecoming is no exception," Gonzalez said. "I will definitely be tailgating. I love to win, at anything. I heard there will be even more contests, and I plan on coming in first."

Some students who aren't avid Knight fans are coming out to the Festival of Knights, too.

"I'm not a tailgating kind of person, but this event seems really fun," said junior Cori Elba. "Plus, it's the first time we've ever had it, so I want to be a part of our school's history."

The event is taking place between noon and 2 p.m. Saturday at the south end of Memory Mall.
