The UCF administration restricted tailgating hours for Sunday's game against East Carolina University. Campus parking lots will open for tailgating for UCF's first on-campus, home game on a non-traditional Gameday at noon rather than at 7 a.m., as all other home games have.
The change to the policy was met with resistance from students and the Student Government Association.
SGA said it is actively against this decision, and it wishes to preserve existing tailgating rights.
"SGA appreciates the students, alumni and fans who have been understanding with the changes that have been made so far and feels that a drastic change like this is a lot to ask for at this point in the season," SGA Vice President Brandon Delanois said in a public statement.
SGA said that the tailgating revision should be discussed further at a later time and decided after this season, upon review of how this well the decision fares with the students and in practice.
The administration pushed the tailgating time back due to the game's late start time of 8:15 p.m. and in consideration of the campus' neighbors and employees.
SGA and the administration have not come to an agreement on the issue, but SGA said it plans to continue working with the administration in support of Gamedays.
It will also continue to provide music, free food, giveaways and clean-up services for tailgaters.
The total hours allotted for tailgating for the game will remain roughly equal to that of the previous games, despite the change.
All other tailgating policies remain unchanged and will be in full effect for the ECU game, except that the waiver of county open containers ordinances for alcohol will begin at noon and end when the game starts.
Tailgating hours remain unchanged for the other two home games this season: against Southern Miss on Nov. 8 and UAB on Nov. 29.
Both games will kick off at 3:30 p.m.h
