A professional Obama is just what we need

Recently, all I’ve seen and read regarding the worst oil spill in American history is the people questioning whether President Barack Obama cares. They want him to show anger or any kind of emotion.

I think it is unbelievable that this topic is circling through media outlets.

Well, maybe it’s not all that unbelievable.

Have you seen Fox News lately?

Since it seems like there is not enough to talk about in regards to the president, they want to see Obama angry and yelling. They want to know he cares.
If the people who are saying this actually stop and listen, they may have their questions answered.

But wait. We’re in America, and according to some language experts on CNN, the president speaks too professionally for most Americans to understand.

Spike Lee wants to see the president “go off” at least one time.

How can these people expect that from our president?

We’re talking about the highest seat in our country. We elected him, so why do people want to see him lose his composure?

What kind of images do you think it would send if Obama just “went off” on someone or something? This would not be the man we elected as president, the one who gave that encouraging “Yes, we can” speech.

Serious reaction to the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig took only days when compared to FEMA’s reaction during Hurricane Katrina.

I understand people want our president to care. They want him to take charge and fix it, but if they just listen to what he is saying and pay attention to what he is doing, short of putting BP’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward on trial, he is really trying his best.

You think Obama wants things to be like this? Obviously, this is not the “help” that he needs in the future polls, but in my opinion, he is doing what he can with what he has.
That “angry black man” is exactly what the White House is trying to avoid.

Imagine the bigot-fueled headlines coming out of the right.

You think listening to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck is difficult now? Imagine if Obama went off on anyone.

Admittedly, it might be interesting to see. I am sure Obama goes on uncensored rants all the time with Rahm Emanuel and Joe Biden, but I feel that that is exactly where it should stay.

The professionalism that Obama portrays is refreshing.

After eight years of mispronounced words and a leader making a fool of himself on the big stage here at home and on foreign soil, I’ll gladly take a restrained, calm, cool and collected approach.

People should be angry at BP, not the president.

BP’s complete mishandling of the situation leading up to and during the leak is just laughable.

I, for one, think BP should be bankrupt and its wealth spread across to everyone affected from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.

To the anonymous poster concerned about people calling Obama a failure,

Obama himself has said that the "cozy relationship" that the Minerals Management Service had with the oil companies was partly to blame for this problem. Then you heard Howard Dean on TV saying, "oh, those are just holdovers from the Bush administration". Well, news flash, the Minerals Management Service is part of the executive branch, and as such, falls under the authority of president Barack Obama.

Obama never bothered to clean house with any of these agencies when he took office, so he shares some blame too. He should have had Ken Salazar go in there and put some new people in place instead of the oil-friendly people that worked there.

Im sorry but name one good thing Obama has done. LOOK at our deficit and no BUSH did not force Obama to bleed this country dry. One day me and you have to pay for this crap. This is also why everyone just throws away the C.F.F

I am really sick of people trying to imply that President Obama is a failure and should be voted out of office because oil is still leaking in the Gulf of Mexico. News flash President Obama is not a scientist, and can only rely on the expertise of those who are to try to engineer a way to stop this leak. I mean I really do not understand what those of you who feel this way want President Obama to do. If there were a quick and easy fix for this leak it would have been stopped by now, however, our technology is limited in this area. The ultimate responsibility for this tragic disaster lies with BP, and the financial responsibility for this responsibility for this disaster lies with BP as well. If you want to blame someone for mismanaging resources blame BP. I think that republicans expect Obama to go a mile down into the Gulf and use himself to plug the hole. Even then they probably wouldn't be happy.

We need to stop this partisan bickering and think about what we can do to help those affected by the spill instead of blaming our President who is doing the best anyone in his position could do.

I agree with you sir, right up until you call for the bankrupting of BP. BP does not have unlimited assets, and bankrupting them will not help the people of the gulf coast get paid for damages. President Obama has already moved to make BP set aside a 20 billion dollar fund to pay individuals who have been affected by this. In order to make sure that all parties concerned receive compensation, BP must remain a profitable entity.

This price tag for the oil spill cleanup and recovery continues to rise, and no one knows what the final cost will be. BP needs to stay in business so that the gulf coast can be made whole.

I'm angry at the president AND BP. As he once said, "The buck stops with me." And that's absolutely correct. Although the oil spill is not his fault, he is ultimately the blame for allowing the oil slick to continue for 70+ days. It's the sad truth, but the president is the responsible one. The gross mismanagement of allocations and resources is why people are angry at Obama...not his calm demeanor. If a chief executive cannot plug an oil leak, perhaps it is time to find someone else in 2012 that can.
