It’s All Good with Good Vibes Clothing
It's a big deal if you reach 100,000 views on YouTube. It's an even bigger deal if there is a power team behind it all comprised of five UCF students. But arguably one of the most intriguing parts about Good Vibes Clothing’s channel debut on YouTube is the fact that the brainchild of the clothing brand hop-scotches the line between a la mode and affordable clothing and has developed a concept that encourages GVC fans to live like a rock star.
According to the Good Vibes Clothing website, Good Vibes Clothing is a new style that captures the art of electronic dance music through creative emotion and exotic design. Their mission is to deliver clothing with a unique style that you will not only look good in, but also feel good in.
Alec Brodie, a UCF senior studying marketing and finance, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Good Vibes Clothing brand. He is responsible for the embryo of music-inspired tees that are infusing its way into UCF students’ closets and soon-to-be in the closets of music aficionados around the world and one day, on Avicii.
CFF: Tell us about the history of Good Vibes.
Brodie: House music and the hobby of DJ-ing are becoming increasingly popular, to escape the insanity of everyday life and in the process, creating new forms of self-expression. Anyone who has been to Ultra, EDC or any local DJ event can attest to the adrenaline rush of celebrating music in such a surreal and united atmosphere of energy and “Good Vibes”. Our job as an organization is to spread this Good Vibe mentality through style and music.
CFF: How did the name “Good Vibes” originate?
Brodie: It was a phrase often said by a great friend of mine Todd Traxler (Dude Bro Art). He has always encouraged “Good Vibes” and to enjoy life through positivity. At Good Vibes, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to spread this message.
CFF: This is only a men’s line, right?
Brodie: The t-shirts are tailored for men. The tanks are meant for anyone.
CFF: Would GVC ever design exclusively for women?
Brodie: We are looking into the production of crop tee’s and tanks for exclusively women.
CFF: What’s the greatest success GVC has had?
Brodie: The greatest success we will ever have is positively changing the lives of our fans and those around us.
CFF: What’s a failure GVC has had? (If there was ever one!)
Brodie: You only fail, when you stop trying.
CFF: Who does the actual designs?
Brodie: We have several graphic artists on board. Our current lead designer is Bryon Adkins. I saw his recreation of Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night made entirely from bits of candy - the rest was history.
CFF: Who would be the ideal celebrity or musician to wear one of your shirts?
Brodie: Avicii. His music is the definition of good vibes, it so uplifting and powerful.
CFF: Was there ever a moment when you were like "screw it all?"
Brodie: Haha. We’ve had a few sleepless nights making sure everything goes correctly. But I enjoy what I do and I will never once regret it.
CFF: What was your biggest fear and how has that changed since you first started this business?
Brodie: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.”- An excerpt from a really boring person but still a damn good quote.
CFF: Did you ever get “bad vibes” from any business people or people in general throughout this business venture?
Brodie: We have yet to come across a single person who doesn’t support what we stand for.
CFF: If there were any song in the world that would define GVC, what would it be?
Brodie: Avicii Vs. Nicky Romero - Nicktim(Original Mix)
CFF: Describe your personal style.
Brodie: I would be content if the last thing I owned was a tank top and board shorts.
What are a few songs on your “Top 25 Most Played’ on your iPod?
#1 Kap Slap- Breakin’ the Doors
#2 Blau- Jagger Bomb
#3 Outasight- Change the World
CFF: What is the secret to staying motivated?
Brodie: Doing what you love.
CFF: Your favorite shirt out of the entire collection:
Brodie: My answer changes every day but right now, it’s a shirt that you all haven’t seen yet.
CFF: Last question: Do you think other students can benefit from taking a risk and starting their own business at this age?
Brodie: Everyone should try something they don’t think they can do. They will be pleasantly surprised.
