Exclamation point of love

6/24/10 6:34 PM

Being a Florida girl born and raised 15 minutes from one of the nicest beaches in the country, it’s no wonder I found myself having the most fun when I was visiting the ocean.   I traveled to Viareggio, Rimini and Elba over the course of the last couple of weeks with some of the friends I have made so far.   Each beach was more amazing than the one before it and all had their individual perks that make me want to go back again.     Viareggio is perfect for single college girls because everywhere you look, Italian gorgeousness surrounds you. And what I mean by that of course, is that the young and sexy guys are out in full force.   Another perk is that no one speaks English. You might think “duh, you’re in Italy,” but in...

The harder you look, the harder it is to find

6/17/10 11:41 AM

Finding love in Florence is not as obvious as in Cinque Terre or Rome where it just kind of appears right in front of you and slaps you across the face. Here, you have to actually stop walking, look up and around you and genuinely appreciate what it is you're seeing. This is one of the reasons why I have held off telling you about it until now. Because of the cobble stone streets, the horrid smell of urine and random dog droppings, your eyes are more often than not glued to the ground. Florence's beauty, however, is up in the buildings and inside random hole-in-the wall restaurants and boutiques that you have to take the time to look for. I strongly encourage you to take a walk without a map and without any expectations just to see where you end up. Whether it be finding the cutest...

Lovers' Lane

6/11/10 1:32 AM

This past weekend I took a day trip to Cinque Terre, a place known for its romance and beauty.   Cinque Terre is made up of five coastal villages that cannot be reached by car, making you almost forget about the modern world and forcing you to remember simple joys.   There are many easy ways to travel between the cities such as by train or boat, but I highly recommend taking the hike. The beauty you will experience along the climbs from city to city will tremendously outweigh any hate for strenuous activity you may have.   Most of the hikes are exhausting and lengthy, but the walk between Riomaggiore and Manarola is effortless and purely enjoyable.   A little history behind this particular pathway:   The five towns were all extremely isolated up until...

Do as the Romans do and love who you're with

6/5/10 3:15 PM

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.  In my opinion, we should scratch that and do as the Romans do everywhere we go.   I was sitting outside under a perfect blue sky, with the Colosseum in full view, when I realized that the beauty of the surroundings elicits a sense of appreciation for the beauty in everyone.   I noticed several seemingly local couples enjoying each others' company. They had one another in a complete embrace, faces close and were talking to each other in the sweet sounds of one of the most romantic languages in the world.   With that, I realize that the awkward and often frowned upon public displays of affection that we face in the States are nonexistent here.   Couples do what they wish, where they wish and whoever wants to watch is more...

A search for love in Italy

6/2/10 11:20 AM

By this time next week I will be drinking cappuccino at an authentic Italian café, day dreaming about a life full of simple pleasures and romance. I can only infer that the word ‘romance’ was first used to describe the way Roman men won over the women of their dreams, seeing as how ROMAN makes up the majority of the word. Now this made-up origination may only satisfy my personal need to know, but the fact of the matter is that there is simply no greater place to look for love than Italy, and more specifically Rome. Italy has given the world some of the greatest lovers in history: Casanova, Romeo and Juliet and Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck (excuse me while I recover from extreme internal melting). From May 20...
