We are happy to see that UCF was able to execute the plan they put in motion years ago regarding football games scheduled at the same time as classes.
On weekdays that UCF's football team plays in Bright House Networks Stadium, like October 6, classes that begin after noon will be canceled.
It will allow students to participate in UCF's athletic department. Perhaps you are a student that does not normally attend football games.
Without the fear of missing class you should attend at least one game. If nothing else you can see why so many people love UCF sports.
That love is another reason UCF decided to cancel classes after noon on game-days. There are some students, alumni and community members that attend every football game at UCF. The crowds are so large that parking can be a nightmare.
UCF did not want students stressed out because they are trying to find a parking spot and get to class without being late.
Getting a parking spot on a regular day is hard enough. Add all of the extra fans into the mix and you are waiting for a disaster to occur.
Since the idea of classes after noon being canceled on gamedays has been around for several years, we hope everyone is happy. We do not want the athletic schedule of the university to make the lives of professors more difficult.
Hopefully they can enjoy the extra time on these days, too. At the least they don't have to worry about giving a PowerPoint presentation to an empty room.
As long as UCF does not schedule several games for the season on days typically reserved for classes we see no problem with this plan.
We all pay for the athletics program in our fees, anyway. Once the program is more established, it can stand on it's own and be a greater asset to the university.
Weekday games are a solid move raise the profile of a young program, because the generally get more attention from the sports networks, rather than compete with the bigger games on the weekend.
Allowing students to enjoy all aspects of their university, including sports, is a smart play by UCF.
