You do not have to worry anymore, UCF students, because there are jobs after college.

According to a recent article from CNN.com, the federal stimulus package set aside $5 billion dollars for making houses and buildings more energy efficient. In doing so, the federal government has created a need for jobs such as energy auditors and energy efficiency technicians.

To better prepare yourself for environmentally conscious work, take some classes UCF offers on the topic. The university offers an interdisciplinary energy and sustainability minor for undergraduates. The program focuses on sustainable energy generation, conservation, management and utilization.

The university is also working on finalizing master’s programs in conservation biology and energy systems engineering. Once you start researching the money available to green initiatives, you will realize that the federal government is not the only one going green.

The site GreenBiz.com tries to track and report on all news related to the environment. A look at the homepage shows that more companies are involved in going green than we could have ever imagined. Walmart, Nike, Microsoft and Tide are just a few companies investing time and money into making their companies more efficient, sustainable and green.

An important aspect of the entire issue, though, is “green-washing.” Since going green is and has been the trend, many companies and organizations are slapping some clip art of trees and leaves on their marketing materials and claiming to have gone green.

Consumers are smart and have caught on to this pseudo-green effort, which is why if you want to compete in the green market you should be the real deal. You should gain actual experience with as many green projects as possible if you plan on seizing this lucrative career opportunity.

Besides providing you with an education, UCF is also one of the best places to become part of the green community.

UCF’s General Education Program has a unifying theme that is meant to address a certain topic inside and outside the classroom.

UCF’s unifying theme is the environment and global climate change, which is why discussions on going green are so prevalent on your campus. The Web site unifyingtheme.ucf.edu explains UCF’s green initiatives in detail.

It also lists several environment-themed events on campus, including art exhibitions, environmental ethics and awareness films, community markets and plant sales.
