Helpful Knights deserve thanks

The UCF volunteer organization Knights Helping Knights should be proud of all their hard work. The team of dedicated students helps about 100 students a semester by providing free food.

We should all be thankful for the time these students take to think of others.

We have a few ideas that we think could help KHK. We would love to see this helpful organization go to the next level of charitable influence on campus.

KHK could find a student that is majoring in marketing and partner with them to build their brand. There is a lot of talent around campus, and who knows what could be accomplished with the right partnership.

It would also be a crucial learning experience for somebody prior to entering the job market.

A partnership with one or several students could provide KHK help with writing and submitting press releases, organizing and promoting major events and securing more attention overall.

Attention is crucial for a charitable organization because it usually means more success. For a business, increased attention means the chance at securing new customers. For a charity, attention can lead to more donations.

Hopefully an organization as considerate as KHK will expand over the years. It would be great to see the organization receive help from other students and  different charitable organizations within Orlando.

Donating money to KHK could also help the group expand. Creating a PayPal account and adding the link to the KHK website and Facebook page will allow people who can't offer time or food to donate money to the organization.

Relying on donated food for survival can be awkward for anyone, but no one should ever feel bad about needing a little help. KHK's approach has made it easier for students in need to get help in an empathetic and responsible manner by using the honor system for donated food.

However, if the program grows, new solutions could be needed to continue the service and stay sensitive to the students being helped.

Right now KHK has a small number of people utilizing its services and the team probably recognizes each face immediately. But if KHK gains the attention we think they deserve, their team might not be able to remember every single face.

If expansion results in KHK needing additional support we hope UCF will be there to help. We would hate to see a program that benefits so many go out of existence because of growing pains.

The program is also looking to expand the types of goods they offer to include clothes and appliances.

It is great  to see that KHK is already thinking of expanding its organization to help fulfill additional needs.

We are thankful that these UCF students are taking time out of their schedules to implement an organization that helps better the students of UCF.

We look forward to watching KHK grow to include more members and larger donations over the years.
