The UCF associate athletic director who was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence early Friday will not lose his job.

Joe Hornstein said he was assured by members of the athletics department that he will be retained after being arrested on campus by UCF police for a DUI.

According to the arrest report, Hornstein was driving his girlfriend to her car following the Katy Perry concert. The arresting officer observed that he was unable to stay in one lane. After pulling over, he stumbled when he got out of the car and placed his left hand on it to steady himself. Hornstein then proceeded to fail the three DUI tests the officer gave him.

The two breathalyzer tests he took resulted in blood alcohol levels of 0.137 and 0.130, more than 1.5 times the legal limit in Florida.

Hornstein was released from the Orange County Jail after posting $500 bail.

"This is has been a very difficult few days and [I] have spent a great deal of time reflecting on the situation," Hornstein said. "I do not condone this sort of action and I sincerely apologize to everyone who expects more from me. I am smarter and better than this."

The University of South Florida alumnus, who will be entering his fifth year with the Knights, is doing his best to turn the negative situation into a positive one.

"I will turn this around, learn from it, continue to better myself and work hard each and every day to be a positive influence as I have done my entire life."

He has been able to stay positive largely in part to the wealth of support he has received from the community, which he said he appreciates was overwhelmed by.

"They let me know I was not alone, and I cannot thank them enough for the compassion they have displayed," Hornstein said.

According to an emailed statement from Grant Heston, associate vice president of UCF News and Information, the university is aware of the incident and "will take the appropriate action at the appropriate time."

Fire him UCF! You are a better institution then this. You are dumping money into athletics so this guy can dump his drunk self behind a wheel and drive around campus. This disgusts me and makes me rethink donating to my institution

This guy, by the way, is the reason that they don't allow anyone to storm the field after big football wins. He's also the reason that police are set up to arrest any students who try to come onto the field after a big win.

He has claimed, multiple times, that it is far too dangerous and that students could potentially get hurt.

Apparently driving around campus while completely toasted is fine, though.

Not enough people care about DUI. This guys clearly didn't when he got into his car. His bosses clearly didn't when he got arrested for DUI and they didn't fire him. It amazes be how the powers that be are so supportive of DUI when it is themselves, but when it is the lowly students they hammer them.

I have seen such two faced people at UCF just over the DUI issue.

This guy is a well known tool, unsupportive of anything outside of athletics unless their is something in it for him. To think he has already been assured that his job is intact so quickly after the incident is disgusting. He was 1.5x over the limit and he was on campus, a complete endangerment to the students and patrons on our campus. This is a disgrace to our athletics department and he is an awful image of exactly what the institution should not safe guard.
