Spring break may still be days away, but the Campus Activities Board couldn’t wait to get the festivities started.

The Pegasus Ballroom was transformed into a roller skating rink Wednesday for UCF’s first “Rockin’ Roller Skate” hosted by the CAB.

The ballroom was decked out with black lights and strobe lights. Disc jockies from Knightcast entertained students with the latest hits from today’s favorite artists.

The skating rink, which was constructed by hard floor pieces that snapped together, was packed with students skating around in the familiar circle that most remember from their years in grade school.

Even though the event was geared towards the younger Knights, some of the faculty were spotted enjoying themselves as well.

Satin Burnout, a 28-year-old Costume Construction instructor, was racing around the rink like she was at one of her roller derby practices with the rest of the Sintral Florida Derby Demons.

“I am so excited. There is roller skating on campus!” she said. “I didn’t believe it when my friend text [messaged] me about it. It is so cool that everything is free.”

CAB provided free skate rentals, as well as pizza and drinks to all who attended the event. However, the event was such a success that supplies ran dry by 7 p.m. with hundreds of students still making their way inside to join in on the fun.

CAB’s Special Events Director, Kim Gordon, said the success of the event could mean its return in the future.

“Everything cost about $4,000 and was paid for through the Active and Service fees in tuition, so we think we could make this an annual event,” said Gordon. She said it all depends on how popular the event is.
