Late Knights held its final events of the semester, "Late Knights: Pirates," this Friday in front of the Arena from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Late Knights is a program run by approximately eight UCF students. Funded by the SGA, they put together monthly events held on the UCF main campus that offer free food, games and prizes for UCF students and the community.

"Late Knights is basically and alcohol alternative program, designed for a Friday night so students can stay on campus and not go off to local bars.  We would rather have them here and be safe in a fun environment for students to come and enjoy themselves," said Jerry Estrada, the current student director for Late Knights

It is no coincidence that the theme for this month's event mirrors the excitement for the upcoming addition to the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series.  Every April, Late Knights tries to have a water-themed event.  This month, knowing that pirates themes are popular, they decided to incorporate both themes.  They even had Captain Jack Sparrow wandering through the event, armed with a water gun, making sure that no one was left dry.

"I love pirates and I have never been to one of the Late Knights events.  I was really interested to see what they would be doing," said Ashley Moran, a Late Knights attendee.

In addition to Captain Sparrow's presence, there was also a water tag inflatable game, a water slide, video games, food, free shirts, and hula dancers that came out and performed.  The first 200 attendees were given custom-made flip-flops.

"I had a blast.  There were a bunch of water games and I walked away with a lot of free stuff, too," said Megan Graves, another Late Knights attendee

Estrada said he was very pleased with the turnout and estimated about 800 people to be at the event, and he expected more to show up as the night rolled on.  Late Knights is held once a month and even though "Pirates" was the last one of the school semester, they will start back up in the fall, when students start classes.
