Friday marked the beginning of the fall 2010 Late Knights events. About 1,000 students came out to the Memorial Mall area to participate in Late Knights' "Xtreme LK" event.

Activities included an Extreme Rock wall, Extreme Dodge ball, Bungle Trampoline, Board games, contests, and the BMX stunt show. In addition, students were informed about a chance to win free movie passes and other promotional items by simply writing down their names and contact information.

The rain didn't stop students from enjoying the event. Laughter continued to fill the air as students danced and sang to the live music that was provided by Power 95.3's own DJ Quez and local DJ Kumar.

"This is my first time here at Late Knights; and I am having a great time despite the rainy weather… and the music is awesome. I only been in college for five days and I am already sold," said Emily Conroyd, a freshman aerospace engineering major.

The midnight buffet was catered by Wackadoo's along with drinks provided by Smoothie King.

"One of the things I look forward to every night is the midnight buffet- I can really work up an appetite. But anyways, I think that it's a good thing that Late Knights supply free drinks and food, because for some students this is the only meal they will receive all day. It's sad but it's a reality:" said Sylecia Groover, a junior Business Administration major.

Late Knights is a monthly student-run event at UCF that provides free food, fun, games and giveaways. At Late Knights, students can interact with other students from various backgrounds and cultures. "I met some of my first friends here at UCF Late Knights. I must say that Late Knights is definitely the perfect networking opportunity for incoming freshmen and upperclassmen alike," said Jerry Estrada, student director of event operations.

The continuous success of Late Knights resulted in an increase in budget from the Student Government Association.

"Late Knights previously consisted of nine events in the past six years. Now, we received more money from SGA to fund an additional event. We are also trying to receive more money from SGA to support additional transportation for those students living off campus. By next year we hope to have that financial support so students living off campus can have a safe trip home from future Late Knights events," said Estrada.

The next Late Knights event "Around the World" will be held on September 10, 2010.
