UCF took down the SMU Mustangs 69-53 in the first round of the C-USA tournament Wednesday night as three Knights scored in double figures.

Taylor Young had 15 points, Iaasc Sosa scored 14 and A. J. Tyler added 12 to help the Knights (15-16) move on to the second round where they will take on No. 21 and C-USA No.1 seed UTEP Thursday night.

The ninth-seeded Knights trailed the eighth-seeded Mustangs (14-17) early but used a 17-4 run to take a 32-30 lead into the break.

Once the second half got underway, the Knights never allowed SMU to get back on top and once the game clock passed the 10 minute mark, the Knights led by double digits the rest of the way.

As a team, the Knights totaled 23 assists to just 10 turnovers and out rebounded the Mustangs 35-20.

Derek Williams was the only SMU player to score in double figures, leading the Mustangs with 15 points.
