After the first day of the Adams Cup of Newport at the Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I., the No. 25 Knights men's golf team was in second place and behind No. 16 Georgia by three shots. A repeat Adams Cup victory was still within reach, but it would take a comeback.
The Knights did just that on Tuesday, claiming their second consecutive Adams Cup victory.
"I am excited with the way that we have started the season and hopefully we will continue to progress," head coach Bryce Wallor said in a release.
The Knights shot a team score of 842 (-18) in the two-day, 19-team event. A strong 13-under final round, shooting a 275, propelled the Knights to victory.
Three Knights finished in the Adams Cup top 10 — Ricardo Gouveia, who took medalist honors at 204 (-11); Brad Schneider, 209 (-6), in third and Jose Joia, who tied for eighth at 215 (E).
"For two tournaments in a row now we have received contributions across the board," Wallor said. "Every week is its own test. You bring your best team out and see how you stack up against some of the premier teams in the country. Every day, somebody on our team is doing something special out on the golf course."
