Freeman named C-USA Track Athlete of the Year

After a remarkable freshman season, the recognition continues to pile up for UCF freshman sprinter Octavious Freeman.

Freeman was named the Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. The honor comes just days after Freeman earned All-America First Team honors in two events and a week before Freeman will compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

“To accomplish what she accomplished as a freshman shows her level of talent,” track & field head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert said in a release. “We are excited to see Octavious compete at the Olympic Trials and in the Black & Gold again next year.”

Postgraduate Scholarship award to former Knights soccer player

Spencer Scott, who concluded his career with the UCF men’s soccer team this past fall and graduated from UCF in May, has been awarded one of 12 Conference USA Postgraduate Scholarship Awards.

C-USA presents $4,000 scholarships to graduates as selected by the league’s faculty athletics representatives. Scott finished his time at UCF with a 3.66 grade-point average en route to a bachelor’s degree in political science.

“This is a great honor, and I am very appreciative,” Scott said in a release. “It was an honor to even be nominated.”

Scott will be attending UF for law school in the fall.

Golfweek recognizes Gouveia as All-American

Sophomore men’s golfer Ricardo Gouveia was named an All-America honorable mention by Golfweek last week. Gouveia has also been recognized as the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and played a pivotal role in leading the men’s golf team to the NCAA Championship.

Gouveia, a Portugal-native who transferred from Lynn University, recorded five top-10 performances in his first year with the Knights.
