The UCF men’s basketball team has taken one step forward and three steps back.
Just days after senior Keith Clanton announced that he will be returning to play at UCF for his final season of eligibility, UCF Athletics confirmed that seniors Marcus Jordan, Josh Crittle and C.J. Reed will not return to the team.
Jordan, the team’s second-leading scorer last season, will remain enrolled at the university and pursue other opportunities, according to the release.
Reed and Crittle will look to continue their basketball careers outside of UCF.
Reed, a redshirt senior out of Daytona Beach, will play for Georgia Southern University, where his father is on the coaching staff. Crittle has reportedly visited DePaul University, a school in his home state of Illinois.
The trio of seniors was permitted to transfer without penalty following the announcement of the program’s one-year postseason ban for major recruiting violations.
Guard Calvin Newell will be called upon to take the majority of Reed’s duties at the point once he is eligible spring semester, along with freshmen Matt Williams and Daiquan Walker.
The Knights will likely look to Clanton and freshmen Dylan Karell and Staphon Blair to hold down the low-post this year.
