Blurred gender lines help to raise $300 toward gay prom

The purple lights splashed shards of darkness-piercing light across the dance floor of PULSE nightclub Thursday when officers from the Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Student Union put on a half-in-drag, half-strip-club show to help raise money for the gay prom planned later this month.

Campus MovieFest spotlights rising UCF movie-making talent

The next Quentin Tarantino or Steven Spielberg could come from UCF, with the top regional award for the Campus MovieFest Grand Finale going to a UCF team last Thursday night at the Plaza Theatre in Orlando. Students from UCF, Jacksonville University, Rollins College and the University of Tampa formed teams of seven and let their creativity flow.

CAB Speakers event The Speakers committee of the Campus Activities Board will host a speech by Jim Ellis on Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Cape Florida Ballroom of the Student Union. Ellis, the focus of the movie Pride, will speak about the racism he faced and other personal experiences while putting together an inner-city Philadelphia swim team.

A recently organized student group is encouraging students to walk out of their classes in protest of the war in Iraq at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. After the students walk out of their classes, there will be a protest in front of the Student Union where Eric Eingold, one of the organizers of the event, said he will try to remind students how much power they have in the political system.

BK broiler sets off fire alarm in UCF Union

Students in the Union didn't get to have it their way on Friday when an electrical glitch at the Burger King set off a fire alarm, forcing students outside for about 30 minutes and temporarily cutting off the air conditioning. The evacuation happened around 8 a.

Laughs send top comedy act to Improv

Raucous laughter was craved, panic-inducing silence was deadly and generous applause was a bonus as UCF's aspiring comedians took the stage at Wackadoo's Tuesday night for the Campus Activities Board's Amateur Comedy Night. As students filed in and Asian doughnuts were strewn across tabletops, a group of young comics lined the back wall of the restaurant and awaited their time to shine.
