Students inspire with positive notes

Several students drew on the sidewalk just outside the John T. Washington Center on Tuesday, conveying positive messages to help passersby get through the day. Shelby Glasgow, Brad Pettitt, Ian Kramer, Julie Frost, Natalie Finkelstein and Benjamin Smith, wrote the messages in hopes of inspiring people.

A group of UCF students is calling for a change to allow students and faculty to carry concealed weapons on campus. Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, a student-led organization, voiced its idea this past week. They were joined nationally in the effort as students showing support for the group by wore empty gun holsters on campus.

Two victims robbed in morning attack

A UCF student and another person were carjacked at the Collegiate Village Inn apartments on University Boulevard Wednesday. Early in the morning, two suspects driving a newer-model, silver Honda Civic carjacked a 1995 red, Honda Civic with Florida license plate number J464AV, said Cpl.

Person injured in hit-and-run near UCF

The UCF Police Department is asking for student help in a hit-and-run case. The incident occurred on Monday at about 6:35 a.m, said Cpl. James Roop, spokesman for the UCF PD. The police said the victim was injured but not killed. Police said they suspect that the vehicle was a late-model silver Honda Civic driven by a woman in her early 30s.

Group asks for higher tuition, greener campus

Eco-Advocates, a campus environmental group, in partnership with the UCF Arboretum and the Sustainability Alliance, is taking the battle for environmentally sustainable practices at UCF to the next level. Joining the ranks of other colleges in the state, the group is moving forward with their initiative to pass the Green Fee.

Many parents drop their children off at day care when they go to work, and now they can do it with their dogs too. Day care is just one of the services that University of Doglando offers. They also offer cage-free boarding, grooming and training classes.

The latest Collective Bargaining session between University of Central Florida faculty represented by the United Faculty of Florida and the UCF Board of Trustees left UFF both disappointed and confused. The BOT was the only side to propose anything new to Articles 16, Disciplinary Action and Job Abandonment, and Article 23, Salaries.

UCF reviews grievances

The hearing for the former UCF police chief will be held today at 1 p.m. in Millican Hall to decide what action the university will take next on his formal complaint with the university. Richard Turkiewicz hopes to present all of his evidence to Maribeth Ehasz, the vice president of student development and enrollment services, in an effort to support his 12 allegations of unethical and illegal activity.

Artists express heritage

Three talented spoken-word and hip-hop artists filled a packed Cape Florida Ballroom with words and music Wednesday. The Beats, Rhymes and Rice Tour, starring Giles Li, Bao Phi and Kiwi Illafonte, breezed into UCF. "They're traveling from school to school," said Cuong Le, chair of the Asian Awareness Council of the Multicultural Student Center at UCF.

UCF PD holds open house The UCF Police Department is inviting all students to attend its open house today from 10 a.m. to noon in the John T. Washington Center. The goal of the event is to achieve better student-police communication. NSCS volunteers on Greek Street The National Society of Collegiate Scholars will be volunteers at Trick or Treat on Greek Street Sunday.
