The Department of Education released new regulations for student lending that will correct issues found in the lending practices in many colleges across the country. These new rules, effective July 1, will affect about a fourth of the UCF population. This fall, 12,636 students had at least one student loan, said Lisa Minnick with the Office of Financial Assistance.
A new resolution adopted has changed the order of Student Government Association Senate meetings in an effort to increase student involvement. The resolution, 40-03, pushes the allotted time that students have to address the Senate, known as "open forum," up to the beginning of its weekly meetings.
The Study Abroad Fair held Nov. 14 allowed volunteers and faculty the opportunity to share their personal experiences and expertise with students regarding tuition, diversity of programs, housing and cultural differences. Diala Gammoh celebrated Thanksgiving for the second time in her life Friday. Gammoh said she had heard about Thanksgiving, but did not fully grasp what it meant until last year. Gammoh is originally from Jordan and has been at UCF for two years as an international student. She is an industrial engineering graduate student and plans to earn a Ph.D. at UCF, then return home to Jordan upon graduation.

Hari Saha has lived worlds apart, but his love for education has always been with him. Before coming to UCF, Saha was a native of Calcutta, India. Saha teaches physics and though he says the subject isn't easy, it's always nice to see students succeed. In India, the several states each have their own language, so there is no official language for the nation; Saha speaks Hindi, Bangoli and English.
