2008 Woodie Awards
It was chapter three in the same old story for the UCF Men's Basketball team on Saturday night against Mississippi. It was another gritty effort by the Knights against a quality big conference team, but when it came time to seal the deal, the Knights were left holding the bag - again.
The UCF Football team accomplished a lot of feats this year. The Knights accomplished their 10-win season, their division title and their conference championship. They accomplished building one of the most fearful running backs in the country and one of the most potent defenses in its division.
So it has all come to this. One of the most historic seasons in UCF Football history will end on Dec. 29 at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn. The Conference USA Champion Knights (10-3 overall, 7-1 in C-USA) will face the sixth-place team out of the Southeastern Conference in the Mississippi State Bulldogs (7-5 overall, 4-4 in SEC).
From the opening of the on-campus stadium to the win over Tulsa to secure the Conference USA Championship, the UCF Football team has been on an historical ride this season. Here are the key moments from the 2007 season: Smith is anointed The most obvious storyline from this season for the Knights is running back Kevin Smith's emergence from solid running back to record-breaking beast.
After a decent showing in 2006, in which the UCF Men's Soccer team went 6-9-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Conference USA, the Knights had a disappointing 2007 campaign. Before the season, the Knights' leading scorer, Zak Boggs, transferred to South Florida and perhaps their best goalkeeper, Brian Pope, was injured.
