Asian-American frat now at UCF

The fraternity said it will continue its volunteer and fundraising efforts, as well as brotherhood and social activities, while remaining academically motivated.

"There's a higher quality we have to meet," said Victor Ma, a junior civil engineering major, during the January interview, "[also] how to become a leader, rather than a follower."

The Asian-interest fraternity, although consisting of Asian-American men, doesn't discriminate against men of other cultures who may want to join - in fact, the group encourages it.

Group member Junichi Hirano, a junior majoring in finance, is half-Japanese, half-Colombian.

The Pi Delta Psi national fraternity was founded at Binghamton University in 1994. Like the national fraternity, the UCF chapter's founders were already established leaders of various cultural groups at the university.

"Every single member has been an officer of an Asian organization or an SGA organization," Guo said.

The fraternity bases itself on the pillars of academic achievement, cultural awareness, righteousness, friendship and loyalty. With these values instilled in each member, the group hopes to continue growing.?
