For Homecoming 2008, UCF has taken school spirit to a completely different level with the theme of A Knight's Quest: It's Our Journey.

This theme idea came from the Executive Board Retreat, where the board members tossed many alternative ideas around. A medieval theme has not been done since 1984 and holds the potential to boost the school spirit.

"Students wanted Homecoming Week to be more UCF oriented," said Kelly Sparks, coordinator for the Office of Student Involvement. "The feedback has definitely been taken into consideration."

Homecoming week will take place from Nov. 1 through Nov. 9. There are two football games that week, but the official Homecoming Game will be on Nov. 8 against Southern Mississippi.

Southern Mississippi has the same school colors as UCF, and it hasn't been determined what school will represent what color at this point. There will be a student lottery for game tickets.

The Homecoming Parade, Concert, Spirit Splash, Comedy Knight, Skit Knight and Movie Knight will all still take place as they have in years past. At this point, there has not been any official confirmation on what guests will be coming for Comedy Knight and the Homecoming Concert, or what movie will be shown for Movie Knight.

Since the theme is medieval, the registered student organizations will be able to select their own team themes for the different events.

Homecoming week will kick off on Nov. 1 with Off-Campus Service Day. The destination is still unknown, but it will definitely be somewhere in downtown Orlando. The Awards Gala will end the week on Nov. 9.

"This is only the second year that all the events will take place on campus," said Ashley Vance, the 2008 Homecoming student director. "We plan to have more organization and a concrete schedule by September."

This year, the executive board urges everyone to get involved.

"You don't have to be in an organization to take part in activities," said Andrick Lewis, 2008 Homecoming marketing director. "There was very strong feedback to keep it diverse this year, and that's what we're aiming to do."

The executive board strongly urges the students to contribute their thoughts and ideas and guarantees that they are open to student opinions.

There is a Homecoming Web site under construction right now that should be up sometime soon. If you are interested in volunteering, e-mail hcvolunteer@-mail.ucf.edu.
