UCF students compete in Red Bull Flugtag

UCF students comprised two of the 35 teams, each attempting to defy gravity using human-powered aircrafts last Saturday at Red Bull Flugtag USA in Tampa. A new record for attendance at a Flugtag USA event was set in Tampa. Free admission and $2 cans of Red Bull attracted more than 100,000 people.

The Orlando Science Center welcomed back the Rock N' Roll Laser Light Shows for its second year through August 16. The lasers are full-color beams that, thanks to the smoke machine, turn not just the screen but the entire dome into a goose bump inducing visual overload.

At Millenia Fine Art Gallery's The Best & The Brightest exhibit on July 18, guests were greeted by a portrait of Sen. Hillary Clinton. The Queues cues up new album

Local Orlando band The Queues celebrated the release of their new album Noisemaker in front of an audience of Denny's patrons enjoying meals of omelets and the All-American Slam. The idea of playing inside the restaurant was a concept originally conceived by the store's manager, Kevin Boyd, who was looking for a way to increase sales for the store's late-night shift.

I-Bar has a dark night

Every Thursday night Independence Bar, or I-Bar, hosts Necropolis, their industrial, synth-pop and EBM night, referred to by many as their "goth night". According to I-Bar owner and DJ John Gardner, as well as patrons, Necropolis is one of the only places in Orlando that caters to the goth and alternative scene.

What's a gamer to do?

It must be a hard life for gamers still loyal to Nintendo. It seems that the company insists on ignoring the core demographic of its market and seeks fervently to appeal to our mothers and grandparents with a plethora of casual friendly titles. When asked about the lack of hardcore games at this year's E3 presentation, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime balked, insisting that they had a lot of great hardcore games coming out like Animal Crossing for the Wii and Grand Theft Auto for the DS.
