Students were able to take a break from studying for their finals and got the chance to compete in some holiday-spirited contests as part of Campus Activity Board's winter party Friday evening.

Students who attended the event, which was held in Brooklyn Pizza, battled in groups to create the best gingerbread houses and best "human" wrapped gift, where the gift was an actual person.

Four groups participated in the first contest and each group was given 10 minutes to create the best-looking gingerbread house. The winner, group two, created a cottage-looking home with a high-pitched roof. The outside was decorated with white frosting and small candy was attached to the outside to give it an ornament look.

The final contest was to gift wrap a member of the group with a roll of wrapping paper. Group four won the contest with what they called a XXXL grandma sweater worn by one of the guys in the group.

The holiday party started at 4 p.m. and lasted two hours. The cinema committee for CAB also presented a double showing of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. across from Knightro's.

The pizzeria was decorated with red balloons tied to the handrails inside. The table tops were also covered with red cloths to add to the holiday theme. Students were able to enjoy free refreshments which included pizza, chips, cookies and drinks. Loud music played throughout the entire party, which some students danced to while taking a break from their games.

Won Lee, a micro and molecular biology major came out to Brooklyn Pizza to join in the festivities.

"The party was fun. The refreshments were ample, and the contemporary music was appropriate for the occasion," she said.

Nearly 60 students attended the party which was close to JJ Joseph's, the student director of CAB, expectation of 70 students.

"I feel like [the event] was great. The atmosphere was perfect and everyone was nice and friendly to each other. People got involved [playing] all the games," Joseph said.
