Shayan Elahi, candidate for Florida House of Representatives District 49, discusses the demolition of the plaza during a press conference on Thursday.
Do you think University Shoppes should be torn down?
“I don’t want to move or deal with it – I just want to work,” said Hoa Bich Huynh, who has been co-owner with her husband, Tu Van Tran, since 1998.
“It hurts because it takes money,” Huynh said of concerns that her daughter, a UCF sophomore, will be unable to continue schooling next year due to financial restraints.
The family has already considered the possibility of moving back to Vietnam because of the issues surrounding the demolition.
“They don’t care about us,” Huynh said.
Huynh, along with the other business owners, has attempted to contact American Campus Communities, but has not received any return phone calls.
“A lot of these places are used by students, and it affects them," Whatley said. "It’s a very popular area, and I think it will be missed.”
A call made to ACC requesting official demolition dates was not immediately returned.
