Brandon Howard hit by taxi cab Saturday morning

UCF student Brandon Howard, 20, was struck and killed by a taxi cab early Saturday morning.

A UCF student was struck and killed by a taxi cab on McCulloch Road near Orion Boulevard early Saturday morning.

According to a police report, Michael Sullivan, a Mears taxi cab driver, saw the student walking on the side of the road and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid hitting him. Sullivan was unable to avoid the crash and struck Brandon Howard, 20, with the left side of his vehicle around 1:45 a.m.

Howard, a pre-med student at UCF, was immediately transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he later died due to injuries sustained during the crash, according to the police report.

There were three passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash, but none of them reported any injuries. It is uncertain if the passengers were also UCF students.

Although Howard was attending UCF in hopes of going to medical school, he was also working on a career as a rap artist, according to his Facebook page. His fans know him by his stage name A.T., short for Always True, and many of them have begun posting their condolences on the popular social media site.

The crash is currently being investigated by Florida Highway Patrol and further details have not yet been released.

Has anyone driven along McCulloch at night? There are NO street lights and if there is no moon out, you can barely see ten feet in front of you, even in a car. As a resident of Northgate Lakes, I always feared someone would get hurt walking across/along the road at night because a driver wouldn't be able to see them until it is too late. While this is a horrible loss, I hope it makes someone in the local government realize how important street lights are in preventing accidents.

"He was served alcohol underage at knight library that night and got so drunk he was killed crossing the street going home. The bartenders who served him should be arrested for manslaughter. Everybody at UCF who knew him knows what happened."

Because the hell with personal responsibility. Everyone else but him should be held accountable.

He was served alcohol underage at knight library that night and got so drunk he was killed crossing the street going home. The bartenders who served him should be arrested for manslaughter. Everybody at UCF who knew him knows what happened.
