Those darn Bulls!

The rumor is that USF is blocking UCF from joining the Big East, and that those Tampa Bulls don't want the Knights to intrude on their recruiting territory and rain on their parade.

Fear? Probably. But is it true?

No way.

Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel has reported that USF could possibly be lobbying against a UCF addition to the Big East. He reported that he has contacted officials from both USF and the Big East about that matter, but has not gotten an informative response.

UCF News & Info Assistant Vice President Grant Heston also told the Sentinel via e-mail that the university has been hearing the rumor as well, and that they hope it is not true because if the schools shared a conference, it would "clearly be a win-win for both universities."

The Big East announced it will not be waiting for Villanova's April deadline for a decision (the original deadline was last December), but that does not mean that UCF is surely on its way to automatic-qualifying conference status.

It just means that the Big East is now opening up some options, not phone lines. It doesn't mean that USF is blocking UCF either.

The Big East will do it the right way, with due diligence, and eventually come to a conclusion that is best for the conference. Hopefully UCF is a perfect fit.

I need not go into the economic, educational and football advantages that a UCF-USF rivalry entails or how it will help the Big East remain relevant among BCS conferences.

USF has already ended a profitable rivalry by deciding they were too good for the Knights. A team out of UCF's league, but not too good to play FAU last season, or Western Kentucky for the last two.

Some have suggested that Gov. Rick Scott should get involved, because a UCF-USF rivalry would be a great economic addition to the state of Florida.

Critics say that the Big East would not benefit from UCF joining the conference. After all, it is not their responsibility to boost Florida's economy. And that UCF is too close to USF in terms of recruiting territory and television market to add anything to the conference that they do not already have with USF.

Those darn Bulls!

But, the Bulls have been disappointing over the years and have not yet reached their potential. Maybe UCF is the better USF — the USF that will reach its potential. A USF with star power like Marcus Jordan and Jeff Godfrey.

And adding another Florida team may not be redundant, but strategic for a conference that hopes to build a television network. Not to mention compete with the SEC and ACC in the southeast.

It seems as if USF is playing the filibuster card in hopes of Villanova accepting its invite soon. In the world of politics that is college football, the Bulls are certainly playing their role.

If this is true, Scott may need to get involved or the Big East may need to step up and realize that what is good for the many outweighs the good of the one.

But the chances that USF has that much power over the situation is slim. I do not believe that the Big East will allow one Bull worried about its marked territory being intruded upon by a Knight to prevent a good thing for the conference.

It' important to remain patient. This is an important decision.

But if UCF gets snubbed again, don't blame USF. Don't give that satisfaction to those darned Bulls.

And how well did USF do in C-USA?

I'm honestly tired of non-AQ UCF compared to AQ USF (including recruiting 2 years under the invite). Compare non-AQ UCF to non-AQ USF, including what USF "accomplished" in C-USA and before the AQ invite.

*THIS* is what is the difference. USF *KNOWS* that UCF with an AQ invite would totally cost them. The money don't lie, just ask ESPN and NYTimes on viewership.

I love how UCF is portrayed as a rising star in this article when the only win against a ranked opponent was against U of Houston in 2009. IF you want the big schools' attention, go visit Auburn some weekend or maybe South Bend. I recommend ucf PROVE themselves worthy before they start running their mouths.

And stop crying to the State about why USF won't let them in (or let them win).

Actually, UCF didn't beat any team that "finished 2010" with a winning record. Are you serious. South Dakota, oooh wow, they are a terrifying team. Sarcasum here. Buffalo sucks, UAB, Rice, Tulane, Memphis is terrible in football. These are the teams UCF beat up on this year. I wonder what UCF's record would have ended up being if they played Florida's schedule. Go Gators!

Have you seen our recruitment this year vs USF??? They're shaking in their boots, of course they don't want to play us or have us in their conference. Times have changed my friends. Go Knights!

"UCF had it's chance in football and the Bulls waxed them 4 games in a row."

The only "waxing" was in 2007. Yes, USF beat us pretty bad, but the rest of the whopping 3 games were good, hard-nosed rivalry style games. Going into double over-time in the last game is hardly a "waxing". USF saw the writing on the wall, and the last game we played was proof. I guess you guys were smart to stop playing us... your coveted 4 win "dominance" carrot that you dangle in front of us would be no more.

I just love the poetic justice. It seems as though the roles were flipped this year. USF would have actually benefited from beating a top #25 team in UCF.

First - UCF didn't beat a single team with a winning record = YAWN!
Second - That is false claim because they all had winning records when we played them!
Third - SMU had a winning record and we beat them!
Fourth - Top 50 recruiting class that may turn into top 40
Finally - Stop living in the past - everybody knows that if we played USF now we would destroy you!

There, just a couple of quick points!

Bring back the war on I-4, so I can root for USF if they were in the same conference. Join the Big East, then you should support all the teams in the BE when you are not playing them.

Can't say why USF played FAU, but Western Kentucky was a deal Leavitt made because they were starting their program and he wanted to help them out, you realize the Bulls played WKU at WKU the first game, you don't do that unless you're doing a favor and it was documented that was the reason. USF has continually tried to upgrade their OOC schedule and why should they be vilified because they wold rather play UF, UM or FSU. UCF would do the same if they were in the same shoes. UCF had it's chance in football and the Bulls waxed them 4 games in a row. UCF can congratulate themselves on their ranking last year, but everyone knows they didn't beat a single team with a winning record.

From a USF grad that liked the short-lived quasi-rivalry with UCF, I hope they get invited into the Big East. Florida is big enough to have 5 top teams and if UCF does join, then USF-UCF would make a great in-state rivarly and we are all witnessing that Florida , FSU and Miami are human and can be knocked back down to earth. It is obvious that neither of these 3 schools wants to start a rivalry with USF because of the same so-called fear that some UCF backers are accusing USF of. It is well known that UCF hates USF and USF hates UCF, but alot of those USF feelings were from the Leavitt Era. Seriously, is any USF fan really rooting to play Villanova in football? I too am sick of playing the Elons, Woffords, Western Kentucky and Stoney Brooks of the football world, but again that was from the Leavitt era. Holtz is taking the team in a new direction and I like what I see. If USF thinks they are better than UCF and vice-versa, then they will have to prove it on the field in an annual, game that will rival any other so-called rivalry in Florida sports. All other competition involving recruiting, sponsorships, etc., will also be indirectly proven on the field. It will be good for UCF, good for Florida, good for the Big East and actually good for USF because it will keep USF human and well-grounded. Still hate UCF, but can't wait to see who will be the 10th team. Go Bulls!
