The UCF Knights football team scrimmaged on the field at Bright House Networks Stadium Saturday morning as part of its preparation for the Spring Game on this Saturday.
“I saw good on both sides [of the ball],” O’Leary said. “I think we still got a lot of work to do in the passing game and some coverage aspects.”
The Knights boast a talented and deep backfield, and Saturday’s practice saw Miami-transfer Storm Johnson step up with some impressive carries.
Johnson’s teammates, specifically those on the defense who are charged with trying to shut down the potent running back in practice, are all too aware of his potential.
“I saw him play high school ball and I know what he can do once he gets going, so you need to stop him before he gets going,” linebacker Jonathan Davis said.
Davis stood out for the Knights on the defensive side of the ball Saturday. Davis credits his work in the weight room during the offseason to some of his improved play.
“I got my strength index up, I got my squat up to 610, I got my bench up to 435,” Davis said. “I’ve just been working on my coverage.”
O’Leary told reporters that Davis has sought out extra work with his coverage and said it is something the senior can improve on with more repetitions.
“He’s late in some of those coverage elements,” O’Leary said. “He’s getting stuck on the run game too much instead of focusing on his keys.”
