The Big East is adding new members, and UCF may soon be one of them.
The conference has already handpicked six potential new members, and reports are surfacing as to who will join the new-look Big East.
According to an Associated Press report, the conference fighting to survive will extend invites to the Knights, along with fellow Conference USA schools SMU and Houston for all sports. Football-only invites will be extended to Boise State, Navy and Air Force.
Despite reports, Big East commissioner John Marinatto has been reluctant to say the names of the schools.
"As we've learned over the last two months, don't believe anything anybody tells you. Nothing's done until it is over," Marinatto told the AP, "So I'm obviously being very cautious and that's why I'm reluctant to say names of schools."
The Knights have not received an official invitation from the conference, however, all signs look to be pointing to leaving C-USA for the Big East. During a Board of Trustees meeting last week, UCF President John C. Hitt was granted the authority to make all conference realignment decisions by seeking a new athletic affiliation contract and to cancel UCF's contract with C-USA.
"We have not received an invitation from the Big East," UCF spokesman Grant Heston said, "However, we understand the things are moving in that direction."
