The UCF Knights (22-10) received their first ever NIT bid in school history.

The Knights did not, however, realize their goal of hosting a first round game. UCF was named a No. 6 seed and instead will travel on Wednesday to take on No. 3 seed Drexel (27-6) at 7:15 p.m.

Drexel was among the teams regarded as having been snubbed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee on Sunday.

Should UCF win on Wednesday, they will advance to the second round and play the winner of No. 2 seed St. Joseph's and No. 7 seed Northern Iowa.

The NIT format provides that the higher seeded team hosts games until there are only four teams left in the tournament (which starts with 32 teams). The tournament’s Final Four is held in New York City at Madison Square Garden.

The Knights’ game on Wednesday will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
