The No. 11 Knights (9-2-2) pulled out a 2-1 victory thanks to junior Nik Robson's pair of second-half goals against Tulsa (5-10-0). Robson's second-half performance bolstered the Knights to a 3-1-1-conference record, five points shy of first-place South Carolina.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game," coach Bryan Cunningham said. "You can throw their record out — they are one of the best teams in the league."
The two teams played with physicality during the match. Four yellow cards were distributed, and each team tallied 16 fouls.
"We knew it was going to be a battle, and the players [were] up for it," Cunningham said. "We battled back and were able to get out of here with a nice win."
Both of Robson's goals were scored in the second half, one off of a free kick in the 65th minute and the other in the 70th minute with senior Spencer Scott and freshman Matthew Gaskins picking up assists.
Sophomore Sebastian Evers started in the goal for the Knights over junior Shawn Doyle. Evers totaled six saves in the match.
"We haven't been happy with our play at goalkeeper so we decided to go with Sebastian," Cunningham said. "He performed quite well tonight so we were happy with that decision."
The match was the first at home since the team's victory over Kentucky on Sept. 28. The team has gone 1-1-1 since then.
"It was good to come back here tonight and get a win in front of the [fans] and hopefully finish out here with a few more wins," Cunningham said.
