The Knights hung tough on the road but the Tigers ultimately proved to be too much to handle. UCF is now .500 in Conference USA.
A nationally televised event and a potentially huge win were on the line when the UCF Knights women's basketball team (10-12, 5-5) entered the FedEx Forum in Memphis to take on the Memphis Tigers (17-5, 7-2), the second-ranked team in Conference USA.
Fighting hard until the end, the Knights were handed a 65-57 loss despite having three players in double digits in scoring.
Kayli Keough led the way offensively with 18 points, and Andrea Hines grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.
The teams went back and forth in the first half, trading leads four times until turnovers and inefficiency during transitional defense allowed Memphis to go into halftime up 29-27.
With 1:33 left in the game, UCF trailed by just five points and was within striking distance of turning in the upset.
That's when Memphis forward Nicole Dickson sunk a three that sparked an offensive streak UCF was unable to stop.
The Knights outrebounded Memphis 45-28 and performed well as a whole, but the miscues proved costly. UCF is now .500 in league play this season.
Up next, UCF will host UAB for its "Pack the House" game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
