The commitments of Tyler Gabbert (seen above) and Jonathan Wallace have brought some much needed depth at quarterback for the Knights following Jeff Godfrey’s departure from the program.

UCF has made strides in recruiting in the past week, reeling in five commitments for the 2012 class.

The Knights picked up a commitment from Alabama defensive back Jacoby Glenn. The four others came during official visits at the school last weekend. Among that group was transfer quarterback Tyler Gabbert, brother of Jacksonville Jaguar Blaine Gabbert. Quarterback Jonathan Wallace, offensive lineman Colby Watson and defensive back Nicco Whigham also committed to the Knights.

The addition of Wallace and Gabbert brought much-needed depth at the quarterback position after Jeff Godfrey left the school and UCF's lone quarterback commit Kedric Bostic switched his pledge to Princeton.

Wallace, the 25th-rated dual-threat quarterback and a three-star prospect according to Rivals.com, came into his official visit as a oral commit to Southern Miss. Wallace kept an open mind despite his status with Southern Miss and was impressed with UCF.

"I was overly impressed with everything [at UCF] from the campus, the football facilities and the city itself. There is a lot to do there," Wallace said.

He cites his relationship with UCF coaches as a key factor in his decision.

"The coaches are like fathers to me, and I can go to them about anything I have personally that I need to talk about," Wallace said. "I just feel comfortable around them. I really built a great relationship with them. I felt really comfortable down there. I felt at home."

Although Wallace felt at home in Orlando, he was far from it. He played at Central High School in Phenix City, Ala. Both Wallace and Glenn are from the state of Alabama and, according to Rivals.com, are the No. 22 and 34 prospects out of Alabama, respectfully.

As an out-of-state prospect, Wallace made sure he felt comfortable with UCF players.

"One of the biggest things that I really liked was being able to mix with the players," Wallace said. "I was able to bond with those guys and get a feel of what it's like to be a Knight."

Wallace was able to mesh not only with current players but also with potential commits during his official visit.

"It was nice," Wallace said. "Once everybody got around one another for awhile, everyone got comfortable. We started joking around and everything. Everybody got along easily so it was a lot of fun."

UCF's 2012 class currently has 12 oral commitments, with possibly more silent commitments between players and coaches.
