UCF’s pitching staff has been improving significantly over the past week, with strong showings against FSU and UMass.

D.J. Hicks singled in the go-ahead run for the Knights (13-4) in the seventh inning, giving the team a 2-1 win and a series sweep over UMass (0-3).

Four pitchers combined to hold UMass to only one run, including closer Joe Rogers, who shutout the Minutemen in the ninth to get his fourth save of the season.

The Knights took game two of the series thanks to a D.J. Hicks solo home run in the fifth. Hicks' long ball gave the team a 5-4 lead they never let go.

Freshman Garrett Nuss picked up his first career win at UCF after pitching four innings, allowing no hits and striking out five.

UCF exploded for 16 runs despite a 90-minute rain delay and pulled out a victory in the first game with UMass Friday night.

Senior Alex Friedrich led the Knights offensively, hitting his first home run of the season and racking up six RBIs in four plate appearances. Sophomore Ben Lively picked up his third win of the season after pitching five innings, allowing three runs and striking out six.

The Knights will host the Miami Hurricanes Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. The game is set to be aired on Brighthouse Sports Network.

After the midweek in-state matchup UCF will host Harvard in a three game set starting Friday.
