Junior forward Deshorn Brown, a transfer from the University of Mobile, dribbles the ball up the field in an exhibition match. Brown’s arrival has given head coach Bryan Cunningham a proven offensive threat that was evident on Friday night as Brown scored both goals for the Knights and recorded three shots in a winning effort.
The Knights began their 2012 season on a high note, as Deshorn Brown scored twice to give the UCF men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over FAU Friday night in Boca Raton at FAU Soccer Stadium.
Brown’s pair of goals was his first in black and gold and they were separated by just eight minutes. His second goal came in the 59th minute, less than two minutes after FAU forward Roberto Rivera tied the game at 1-1.
"Our players were ready to go from the start and we really controlled the entire game," head coach Bryan Cunningham said in a release. "That is hard to do on the road. I am proud of our attitude. After their goal, we battled right back. That is a credit to our senior leadership and the mentality of the team. It is great to start the season with a good road win."
UCF goalkeeper Sebastian Evers recorded the win and made three saves in the contest. The Knights outshot the Owls 13-8 and recorded seven shots on goal.
The win was UCF’s third consecutive opening-day victory, and the Knights are ranked as high as 26th in some polls.
TopDrawerSoccer.com released its Men's National Top 100 player selections last Friday, and UCF forward McKauly Tulloch earned the No. 44 spot on the list. The junior also received preseason All-American honors.
