The Knights haven't left Conference USA for a new league yet, but they're close to it.

During a Friday teleconference, the Board of Trustees approved a motion to give UCF President John C. Hitt the power to make all conference realignment decisions by seeking a new athletic affiliation contract and to cancel UCF's contract with C-USA.

The motion, which stated, "Approval is requested to delegate authority to President Hitt to negotiate and execute a contract for athletic conference affiliation and to negotiate and provide notice of contract cancellation as necessary," was unanimously passed.

The university has made its intentions clear to join an automatic-qualifying BCS conference. Michael Grindstaff, chairman of the Board of Trustees, called it an "exciting time for UCF."

On Friday, Hitt said that while the Knights haven't officially received an invite from the Big East, they are in discussions and could accept an invite within the next couple of days.
