Freshman-standout wide receiver J.J. Worton has been suspended from all team activities this spring after he was arrested on Saturday. He was charged with battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence, both felony charges, according to Orange County records.
According to an Orlando Sentinel report, Worton resisted arrest and punched an officer in the face with a closed fist after a uniformed officer told him to leave a St. Patrick’s Day block party hosted by Knight Library.
Worton had a breakthrough redshirt freshman season, earning a spot on the Conference USA All-Freshman Team and setting a UCF freshman record with 41 receptions.
Following Tuesday’s spring practice, O’Leary told reporters that Worton had been suspended from all team activities for the duration of the spring. Worton could possibly be suspended longer and also possibly removed from the program, but O’Leary told reporters that he wants to wait to make a final decision until all information regarding the incident has been collected and clarified.
