Breathe. Relax. Namaste.

These words ring in the ears of yoga newbies and veterans at local yoga studios.

But for those looking for interesting takes on this popular exercise, try these out-of-the box yoga studios right in your backyard.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Located at University Commons across from campus, Guruv Yoga is primarily a Vinyasa flow yoga studio that opened about three months ago.

Owner Tymi Howard said classes such as Vinyasa and Hatha flow are more muscularly focused, while Yin yoga classes focus on creating motion in the joints and body.

Brittney Winston, a UCF student working on her master's in health services administration, worked at the UCF gym for four years, and said she felt the need for a different workout.

Winston said the power-oriented classes and convenient location is what attracted her to Guruv Yoga.

"Yoga is like an outlet for me. There's always something new and challenging about it," she said.

The first class for UCF students is free, and additional drop-ins are $10. For the first month, students can pay $45 for unlimited classes, and $75 for unlimited classes the following months.

With varying class hours, students can practice yoga in the studio seven days a week, from 6:30 a.m. until about 9 p.m.

Zen Yoga

Students wanting more of a relaxed yoga practice can visit Everything Zen Yoga, located off Woodbury Road behind Waterford Lakes.

Owner Rose Batignani, who graduated from UCF in 2003, said people can take classes at their comfort level.

Students can buy a five-class package for $45 that lasts for 60 days, or a 12-class package for $100 over a 90-day span. Drop-ins for a single yoga session are $10.

Mysore Yoga

Those looking for a one-on-one session — called Mysore-style yoga — can visit the Yoga Shala located in Winter Park.

With the studio open seven days a week, yogis are welcome any time between 6:30 a.m. to about 7:30 p.m.

Students can currently purchase a $40 package for a month of unlimited classes.

Cori Cunningham, a UCF senior technical communications major, used to teach yoga at UCF's gym while also practicing at the Yoga Shala, where she said she could get in tune with her body.

"Once you come into the doors, you leave all your issues, troubles and worries behind you. We're going to try to make sure you enjoy every single second before we send you back out to the universe to fight whatever battles you have to fight that day," Cunningham, a yoga teacher and boutique manager said.

Students looking for a variety of yoga classes, ranging from introductory to advanced, can visit Red Sun Yoga at the corner of Red Bug Road and Tuskawilla Road.

One of the owners, Sarah Morgan, said Red Sun Yoga is one of the few studios in the UCF area that is geared toward gentle yoga, with meditation and massage suites. With a valid ID, single classes are $10, five-class passes are $45 and 10-class passes are $80.
