It may not feel much like the winter holiday season outside, but UCF will soon make it look a lot like it.
Light Up UCF, an event that provides students, families and residents with an affordable place to celebrate the holidays, is back for its seventh season. It will run from Nov. 14 through Jan. 4 outside the CFE Arena. Student nights, when students are able to ride and skate for free, are Nov. 12 and Nov. 19.
"Attending Light Up UCF as a freshman and seeing the growing success of the event as a senior in charge of the event has been an amazing experience," said director of campus life Julie Fleishman. "The positive feedback and overwhelming excitement for the event was very rewarding to see and I hope to see the event continue to grow and be even more successful next year."
The first student night attracted more than 1,300 students, said the SGA public relations coordinator Christopher Hixon. The first 150 received customized coffee tumblers, which gave them free access to hot chocolate and coffee at the Dunkin Donuts at Knights Plaza.
On Nov. 19, the student night will be from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" will be shown at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Advanced wristband distribution will be held in front of the Student Union on Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. that will allow students into the event without waiting in line. If students don't get an advanced wristband, they can still pick them up at the CFE box office.
The Holiday Light Show will overtake the front of the CFE Arena where lights will pulse and strobe in sync to holiday music. There will also be a Holiday Film Festival every Wednesday at 7 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Light Up UCF will have an ice skating rink, holiday attractions and snow every night. The holiday attractions include the CFE Federal Credit Union Ferris Wheel, blizzard ride, Arctic Glide Ice Slide presented by RaceTrac and Santa's Workshop presented by Coca-Cola.
On Nov. 15, the second annual Light Up UCF Knight Run will benefit Knight-Thon and the Second Harvest Food Bank. The race starts at 6 p.m. Registration is $30 before the race or $35 the day of the race, and includes a T-shirt and a complimentary skating voucher.
