10 great gifts for the sorority girl in your life
You've made your list, you've checked it twice, but are you at a loss of what to get that special sorority girl in your life?
Clad in letters and bright colors, sorority girls aren't hard to spot, but sometimes they can be a bit hard to shop for when the holiday season rolls around. Sure, they follow fashion trends just like everyone else, but when a gal finds a home on Greek row her style often morphs to reflect her love for her letters.
With that in mind, the Central Florida Future has compiled a list of surefire gifts bound to make your sorority friend, family member or significant other smile this holiday season. The list was compiled with the advice of several members of the Greek community and sorority alumnae.
Alex and Ani
Alex & Ani bracelets have taken the sorority scene by storm and if you haven't seen them yet, you just aren't looking. The brand makes what is like a modern charm bracelet, except it's a bangle and you can wear a dozen of them at a time. From school mascots to beads and initials, the charmed bangles have a little something for every personality. And with an armful of them, they tell a girl's unique story. The bangles cost between $28 and $48 per bracelet. They can be ordered online or at retailers throughout the state. The closest retailer to UCF is the Alex and Ani store in Winter Park, which is located at 356 Park Ave.
If the sorority girl in your life doesn't already have a spirit jersey, this is a no brainer. These long-sleeved t-shirts that display a sorority's name widely across the back will be a must once the chilly weather sets in during the spring semester. Spirit jerseys range in price from $30 to $59, depending on where you order them.
Spiritactivewear.com has a wide selection of sororities, schools and seasonal jerseys to choose from, so it might be a good place to start.
A true Florida trend, Lilly Pulitzer represents everything bright and cheerful in a sorority girl's style. Lilly even has custom prints made for specific sororities. You can check those out here. Our recommendation would be to buy your special lady either an agenda, tumbler, tote or accessory. Agendas will come in handy with the start of a new year and cost $28. Lilly Pulitzer products can be purchased online, at Lilly retailers throughout the state or at Dillard's department stores.
Personalization is posh, and if you can pull off a monogrammed necklace, shirt or tote this season you're already on the right track. The best deal we could find for a monogrammed necklace is from Sears. Prices for these necklaces start at $84.99. For other personalized gifts, let your fingers do the walking on Etsy.com. Here, you'll find monogrammed anything – robes, glasses, clothing, you name it. Just remember (eh hem, all you boys out there) a monogram should go in this order of initials: First name, last name, middle name. The last name initial is always the big letter in the middle.
Ashley Brooke Designs
For some sassy style that comes right out of the Orlando area, check out Ashley Brooke Designs. From motivational and silly mugs to tanks, tees and tumblers, the spirited stationery company has you covered. Our personal favorites are the "You can't sit with us mug" and the "I like the way you work it" tank. There is also custom stationery, notebooks and notepads available for purchase. Prices range from $23 to $26 for various products.
BaubleBar and statement necklaces
Most sorority girls like to be a little fancy sometimes, and nothing glitzes up an ordinary outfit quite like a statement necklace. These somewhat over-the-top, jeweled creations add sparkle and flair to any plain jane.
BaubleBar is a popular place to purchase statement necklaces, but they can also easily be found at retailers like Target and Charming Charlie's. If your gal doesn't have an extensive collection of statement necklaces, we suggest starting with a color that matches a multitude of outfits – such as blue to match blue jeans, white or black. Prices on the BaubleBar website range from $15 to $58. Target necklaces range from $11.88 to $29.99.
*Fitbit activity trackers – These are perfect for the active girls out there. Plus, with all those charity 5Ks, they're bound to start keeping track of their miles run and calories burned at some point.
*Towels and Bluetooth speakers – This is for the beach bums and sorority lawn tanners. Yeah, it's cold now, but come April the heat will be back on. Sorority girls often soak in the sun in their front lawns on campus, which means cute towels and tunes will be back on wish lists in no time.
*Stationery—Despite the digital world we live in, some girls will always love their paper products. Stationery from Rifle Paper Co., Vera Bradley or other colorful brands will always be popular. Plus, with sisterhood retreats, graduations, birthdays and schoolwork, every sorority girl needs a little something to pass around on special occasions or to carry to class.
