In 2005, a London book store commissioned comedians and actors, Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, to create a five-minute street show recapping the first five Potter books to entertain crowds queuing up for the midnight release of book six.
That's how "Potted Potter: The Unauthorized Harry Experience Parody" was born.
"[This is] the only show in the world you come into the theater and play a live game of Quidditch, guaranteed," Clarkson said.
Lasting 70 minutes, the show incorporates all seven Harry Potter novels into a performance cherished by Potter fans both as an ode and a departure from the books. The show includes the burlesque and the comedic aspects of the Potter world through acting and improvisation, with Turner as Harry Potter and Clarkson as the rest of the characters.
The show was nominated as Best Entertainment in the 2011 Oliver Awards and it has toured all over the world, from Singapore and Hong Kong, to Australia and New Zealand.
Clarkson said the show had actors from the Potter films attend the show, including Warwick Davis who plays Professor Filius Flitwick, Sean Biggerstaff who plays Oliver Wood, and Crabbe and Goyle, played by Jamie Waylett and Josh Herdman.
Potted Potter will show at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts until Feb. 15 and will be playing all over the U.S. until summer 2015.
