Central Fla. pup parks, spas give canines break from ruff life
Searching for the right dog park or spa to take your pet may be rough, but knowing the ins and outs of the various places around Orlando can be a walk in the park.
For those dog lovers who are looking for dog facilities in the Orlando area, grab on to your leash and your furry pal because here are a few places you may want to check out:
Lake Baldwin Park
This dog-friendly park is located on Lake Baldwin in Winter Park with two pavilions, a boat ramp and picnic tables for visitors to use.
The city park allows its four-legged visitors to run around without a leash during specific hours.
"There's an off-leash area where you can bring your dogs and let them run free," said Ronald Moore, assistant director in parks and recreation.
At the intersection of East Colonial and Dean Road, Downey Park has designated areas for dogs to roam around, and there are two fenced-in dog parks at the edge of the complex.
This park includes a sand beach, picnic pavilions and a fitness area, and is open seven days per week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
University of Doglando
This doggie day care, located on East Colonial Drive, is known as more of a school for dogs. It is an enrichment and wellness center that offers training for dogs, according to its website.
"The dogs are scheduled like they would be for school, and they have regimens and routines that they follow on the scheduled day that they come," said owner Nim Patel.
Dogs can be dropped off at any time during the store's hours of operation — Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
"We'll know your dog inside-out because they're going to be working with the same trainers," Patel said. "We take the time to actually train [the dogs] for all the real-world situations they'll encounter."
All Creatures Pet Grooming, Inc.
Located at 2411 E. South St. and open from Monday through Saturday, this pet salon is a dog grooming, boarding and day care facility that aims to provide a safe, clean and fun-loving experience.
"As pet owners, we really get to know our pets in a very personal way," the website states. "Our pets become intricate parts of our lives."
Happy Paws Pet Resort
On the corner of Challenger Parkway and East Colonial Drive is a pet resort that's open seven days per week and caters to the comfort of its clients.
From a double insulated boarding area to a bone-shaped pool, Happy Paws is a full-service facility that offers overnight care, day care, grooming and a variety of training, according to its website.
Alafaya Trail Pet Oasis
This boarding, grooming and day care facility for both dogs and cats is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This pet resort offers a single grooming room, so the groomer is able to focus on one dog at a time, said lead receptionist Mara Hernandez.
Pet Oasis is affiliated with the veterinary hospital located next door, Alafaya Trail Animal Hospital, and Hernandez said all supplies are veterinary recommended.
