Students will overtake the UCF campus in neon colors and glow their way through the first-ever Light the Knight 5K.

The event will take place at Memory Mall on Friday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., and is hosted by Late Knights, UCF Campus Activity Board, UCF Student Government Association and Knights of Turntables.

"I always wanted to do another 5K. I've heard from people in Orlando that they've had a great time with [the] run. So I wanted to bring it to UCF," said Travis Mayhew, the special events coordinator for CAB.

Kirsten Fiore, a sophomore journalism and English major, used to run long-distance track and field in high school.

She is now going to run with a friend in the 5K, which will be her first run at UCF.

Although the run isn't timed, beyond the finish line awaits a competition where DJs will compete for the title of "UCF's Best DJ."

Chuck Flowers, a sophomore computer science major, is one of the four competing DJs, and will be competing for the first time.

"I just want to make sure I transition like I want to from genres," Flowers said.

For the DJ battle, the Office of Student Involvement's site states, "Each set must include at least three different genres. Remixes are allowed but sets must include at least three completely separate genres, not EDM remixes of different genres."

The judges will include members of CAB, Late Knights and Knights of the Turntables.

Audience members are also allowed to vote through the CAB app.

The winner will get to spin away at Late Knights' Splashdown, with the possibility to play at other events and win an award.

While the DJs turn up the night, runners and spectators can satisfy their night cravings with food provided by Domino's Pizza and Smoothie King. There will also be drinks provided by Onli, as well as an oxygen bar and prizes.

Mayhew said they are expecting roughly 300 students to attend.

Runners may express their wacky neon fashion; however, it is required to wear closed-toed shoes for running.
