Students wishing to get a taste of China, Japan or India don’t have to hop on a plane; they can take a tour right from the UCF campus.
The Asian Student Association will be hosting its 11th annual Tour of Asia event Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Student Union Pegasus Ballroom.
The Tour of Asia is a themed event where the ASA showcases different Asian cultures through food, dance and performances.
This year, the show is centered on Studio Ghibli, a popular Japanese animation company, and will showcase talent from many Asian cultures, including Japan, the Philippines, China and India.
“Students can expect different Asian cultures in different ways,” said Chanllyca Chau, the ASA president. “We have free Japanese and Chinese food, traditional Filipino dancing and so much more.”
Chau said that the ASA, as a whole, aims to promote cultural diversity and awareness. With this event, it is hoping to spark an interest in Asian culture throughout the student body.
“We want students to know that there’s so much more to Asian cultures than the stereotypes you see in our everyday lives,” she said. “We want students to be able to say, ‘Wow, I never expected this. I want to know more.’”
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, and the performances will begin at approximately 6 p.m.
