There now is an easier way to stay up to date on events scheduled by the Campus Activities Board — and it comes in the form of a smartphone and tablet application.
The new app allows students to view upcoming CAB events, register for events, vote for future events and even contact members of cab from within the app itself.
The idea was the brainchild of Stephen Maguire, a computer science major and associate student director of CAB. He said that his goal in designing the app was to provide students an easy source of information about upcoming activities and events.
"Everyone has a smartphone these days," Maguire said. "I thought, 'What better way to market CAB and all of our events than to have an app that they can look at and see everything they need [to know] about our events?"
In addition to its index and calendar functions, the app provides links to CAB's various social media outlets and postings. A photo gallery with the app called "Humans of UCF" features a number of pictures of students along with a short quote describing their experience at school.
Maguire said that he hoped his app would foster more student involvement at campus events through the use of polls and in-app messages.
"What I really want to do is to make our events more interactive," he said. "There are a lot of things we can do to make events reach students more they're there."
