UCF Police Chief to head international organization
For the first time, a university police chief will lead the
International Association of Chiefs of Police, with UCF Police Chief Richard Beary at the helm.
Beary will be sworn in as president of the 22,000-member organization later this month.
"Through his IACP presidency, Chief Beary will specifically be prioritizing law enforcement response and services for victims of cybercrime; pushing to incorporate tactical trauma care into police training so that officers can operate as medics during an emergency; and improving federal benefits for families of fallen law enforcement officers," said UCF PD public information officer Courtney Gilmartin in an email.
Law enforcement certainly runs in Beary's family. His father served as police chief in Winter Park, his brother is a former Orange County Sheriff's Office police chief, and two of his children now work for OCSO.
Beary got his start at the Altamonte Springs Police Department in 1977 and is the former police chief of the city of Lake Mary.
