Update: police locate son of Oviedo murder victim
UPDATE: Police have located Joshua Ortiz, the son of an Oviedo woman who was murdered on Monday. Ortiz was discovered in Maryland and has been missing since his mother's death. Police have arrested Ortiz on charges of grand theft auto and he has been booked into the Howard County Central Booking Facility, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. Investigators plan to meet with Ortiz tomorrow.
Investigators with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office are asking the public for any information about a homicide which occurred yesterday afternoon in the 3000 block of Woodley Park Place in Oviedo.
Investigators are also looking for assistance in locating the victim's 20-year-old son and a vehicle missing from the home, according to a news release from the Seminole Sheriff's public affairs office.
On Sunday, at about 3:45 p.m., deputies arrived at the residence after receiving a call about an unresponsive female.
Arriving deputies found the victim, Jacqueline Suzanne Ortiz, 45, inside the home where she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Seminole County Fire Department.
Ortiz's son, Joshua Galin Ortiz — who is considered missing, endangered and possibly suicidal — may be traveling in the victim's white 2005 Ford Mustang convertible with tag number G521UU, the release states. The vehicle has front-end damage.
Ortiz is described as a white male and resides with his mother. He was last seen wearing red camouflage shorts and a black shirt with the words "LA Boxing."
Ortiz has a history of altercations with Oviedo Police dating back to January 2010, including one dealing with domestic battery between Ortiz and his mother, according to arrest reports from the Oviedo Police Department. In the incident with his mother, the report states he pushed her on the ground and slapped her during an argument.
Other reports include possession of marijuana and trespassing on school grounds.
However, police have not indicated that Ortiz is a person of interest in this case.
Seminole County Sheriff officer Kristen Bentsen cannot confirm if Ortiz is a student at UCF.
