UCF's first and only professional, coed communications fraternity, Zeta Phi Eta, is set to launch in spring 2015.

Founded in 1892, Zeta Phi Eta is a national professional fraternity based in the communication arts and sciences.

"Membership is open to all communication majors, including marketing, with the hope of uniting all communication students under a common goal," according to Zeta Phi Eta's website.

Thevenin Campton, founder of the UCF chapter of Zeta Phi Eta, said the main goal of this fraternity is to unite communication students through scholarship and professional development.

"There's not a single professional communications fraternity [at UCF]. This fraternity will help form a professional network between both students and professionals in the field," said Campton, a senior advertising and public relations major.

After speaking to several students about the fraternity, Campton said it so far sounds like students have been wanting this launch for a while.

"The fraternity is the oldest national group of its kind and consists of both professional chapters and collegiate chapters on campuses such as the University of Florida, Syracuse University and the University of Southern California," according to the Nicholson School of Communication website.

For undergraduate students studying communications who are interested in becoming part of the fraternity's very first founding class, applications are now being accepted. Applications for leadership positions are due by Friday, Dec. 26.

Rush week will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
