UCF is slated to get yet another new restaurant near campus as Qarma Crêpes, a downtown crepe confectionery, prepares to move its location to the UCF area early next year.
The restaurant is set to open January 2015 in the University Commons Shopping Center, next to Kaplan Test Prep. The shopping center is located at the intersection of Alafaya Trail and Corporate Boulevard.
"It's a great market there for students and the people who work there," Yanis Rock, owner of Qarma Crêpes, said of the decision to move to the UCF area. "It's probably the best thing we could do."
The downtown location on Summerlin Avenue is already closed in preparation for the move. However, the restaurant is currently hiring for assistant managers, crepe creators and cashiers, according to its website.
At the new location, university students and faculty will get a 10 percent discount and will have the opportunity to take advantage of daily specials, such as $6 select "savory crepes" on Wednesdays. Savory crepes are like a thin pancake rolled up and filled with meat, cheese and other ingredients, depending on what is ordered.
Aside from protein-filled savory crepes, the restaurant also offers breakfast and dessert crepes, as well as a kid's menu. Prices range from $3.50 to about $9. Qarma Crêpes will also have beer and wine specials. A full menu can be viewed here.
The restaurant is known for its crepes, but also for its philanthropy. According to its website, the restaurant's motto is "Eat well. Do Good." Three cents out of every dollar spent at the restaurant is donated to various charities each month: one local, one national and one international.
"We believe that it is not enough to simply make good food; making a difference in our community matters as well," the Qarma Crêpes website states.
